Psp tutorial: Black and White

The original tutorial was written by Paola in Italian. Her website could be found here.

This tutorial will be written in English.

===============

I've made this tutorial in PSP X8, but can be made in other PSP versions as well.
This tutorial is adjusted, due to the fact that the outcome in newer Psp versions is a bit different than Psp 9, where this tutorial was originally made in. So attention is needed. Don't forget to save your work from time to time.

Materials:

Plugins:
L and K Landsiteofwonders  --- L & K's Mayra.
Graphics Plus --- Cross Shadow.
DSB Flux
FM Tile Tools
You will also need Animation Shop.

  • Foreground colour: black
  • Background colour: #C0C0C0

Let's get started.

1) Flood fill your canvas with the foreground colour (black).
2) Make the following linear gradient with the foreground colour:

3) Add a new raster layer.
4) Selections ---> Select All.
5) Selections ---> Modify ---> Contract: 55
6) Flood fill the layer with the gradient.
7) Effects ---> Texture Effects ---> Blinds:

8) Remove the selection.
9) Effects ---> Plugins ---> DSB Flux ---> Linear Transmission:

10) Effects ---> Edge Effects ---> Enhance More.
11) Layers ---> Merge ---> Merge Visible.
12) Activate the Selection Tool and click on Custom Selection on the Selection Toolbar:

13) Use the following values:

14) Add a new raster layer and fill it with the foreground colour.
15) Selections ---> Modify ---> Contract: 2.
16) Add a new raster layer and fill it with the gradient of step 2.
17) Effects ---> Texture Effects ---> Blinds:

18) Effects ---> Edge Effects ---> Enhance.
19) Selections ---> Modify ---> Contract: 2.
20) Add a new raster layer and fill it with the foreground colour.
21) Selections ---> Modify ---> Contract: 2.
22) Add a new raster layer and fill it with the gradient of step 2.
23) Remove the selection.
24) Effects ---> Plugins ---> L and K Landsiteofwonders  ---> L & K's Mayra:

This is a minor adjustment made for this tutorial, because the initial outcome in Psp X8 looks different than the outcome in Psp 9 (an older version of Corel from 2004).

If after step 24, your image looks like this image below:

You may continue from step 35.
But if your image after step 24, looks like the image below:

You need to continue from step 25.

25) Selections ---> Select All. Selections ---> Float. Selections ---> Defloat.
26) Add a new raster layer and fill it with the foreground colour (= black).
27) Remove the selection and repeat step 24.
28) Mirror the image (Psp X8: Image ---> Mirror ---> Mirror Horizontal).
29) Activate the top layer.
30) Layers ---> Arrange ---> Move Down.
31) Activate the top layer again.
32) Activate the Selection Tool and click on Custom Selection on the Selection Toolbar:

33) Use the following values:

34) Press on Delete and remove the selection.

35) Close the eye of the bottom layer (Merged).
36) Layers ---> Merge ---> Merge Visible.
37) Reopen the eye of the bottom layer (Merged).
38) Copy and paste the tube "elegant02". Resize the tube with 89% (Resize all layers: not checked).
39) Effects ---> 3D Effects ---> Drop Shadow: 2, 2, 67, 12, black.
40) Adjust ---> Sharpness ---> Sharpen.

41) Copy and paste the tube "mou_delicate_flower7". Resize this layer with 60%.
42) Press on your keyboard on K, and rotate the flower to the left.
43) Move the flower tube layer to the right side and lower the opacity to 50. See the example below:

44) Effects ---> FM Tile Tools ---> Blend Emboss ---> Default.
45) Copy and paste the tube "cornice".
46) Layers ---> Merge ---> Merge All.

47) Add borders:
  • 1px white
  • 2px black
  • 1px white
  • 20px pink
48) Click on the foreground colour and change the settings of the gradient with the following values:

49) Select the pink border with your Magic Wand tool (Tolerance = 0, feather = 0, Inside).
50) Flood fill the border with your gradient.
51) Effects ---> Plugins ---> Graphics Plus ---> Cross Shadow: default.
52) Effects ---> Texture Effects ---> Blinds:

53) Effects ---> Edge Effects ---> Enhance.
54) Remove the selection.
55) Add borders:
  • 1px white
  • 2px black
  • 1px white
56) Copy and paste the tube "decoro_tag" as new layer on your image.
57) Effects ---> Image Effects ---> Offset:

58) Duplicate this layer and mirror it.
59) Copy and paste the tube "cuori_tag" as new layer on your image. Move the layer to the bottom left corner of your image. Example:

60) Duplicate this layer. Image ---> Mirror ---> Mirror Horizontal (older Psp versions: Image ---> Mirror).
61) Duplicate this layer. Image ---> Mirror ---> Mirror Vertical (older Psp versions: Image ---> Flip).
62) Duplicate this layer. Image ---> Mirror ---> Mirror Horizontal (older Psp versions: Image ---> Mirror).
63) Open the tube "fiore_tag". Copy and paste it as new layer on your image.
64) Move the layer to bottom right corner of your image. Example:

65) Write the text Black and White with a font of your liking. I have used the font Edwardian Script ITC, font size: 60px.
66) Add your name/watermark to your work.
67) Layers ---> Merge ---> Merge All. Duplicate the layer 13 more times and save it as *.Psp (Animation Shop File).

The animation

68) Open in Animation Shop the tube "linea_cuore". As you can see, it consists of 28 frames, which is too much.
69) In Animation Shop, go to the menu Edit ---> Select All.
70) Now go to Animation ---> Cull Animation and use the following setting:

The remainder of this animation is 14 frames.
71) Now open your work you have saved as *.Psp.
72) Activate the "linea_cuore" animation and select all frames.
73) Click with your mouse on the first frame of the animation (all frames should still be selected) and drag it to the first frame of your work. It doesn't matter where you'd like to put the animation.
74) Activate the "linea_cuore" animation again. Go to Edit ---> Undo Drag.
75) Repeat step 72 to 74, until you are satisfied with the total animation on your work.
76) You can view the animation on your work with View ---> Animation.
77) File ---> Save As. Choose a file name and save it as GIF.
78) Done!
